We all loved Adobe Flash, back in the day. I remember watching some really creative websites that used Flash. However, Adobe has stopped supporting this software. It is time to remove flash from your mac. If you are still using or installed the Flash plug-in on your Mac computer recently, I have bad news for you. You may have installed malware onto your computer.
Why is it important to stop using Flash on your mac?
I have been removing malware from macs for a few years now. Most of the time the customer would say that their Mac was really slow. The first thing I check when I think that a Mac has been infected is the downloads folder. Almost always there is about ten copies of a file that claims to be “Adobe Flash installer”
I will give you a hint. It never was a real copy of Adobe Flash. Scammers and hackers have been using Adobe Flash to install malware for YEARS.
What if it is a real version of Adobe?
Uninstall that too. The reason why Adobe was always updating Flash is that they were always plugging security holes found by hackers. (That is not a bad thing all software does that) Now that Adobe is no longer supporting the product they are no longer going to be patching those holes. Think of it this way If you had a really bad flatmate who refused to return their keys when you kicked them out .. would you change the locks? Yes you would. Adobe no longer supporting the software is like your landlord refusing to change the locks.
But I like Flash!!
Flash was originally used for fancy animations on websites. Because of the security/battery concerns, Apple did not allow flash to work on iPhones. Apple then put a lot of support behind HTML5 that honestly does everything that Flash did and more. A lot of websites have stopped using Flash years ago. Most likely your web browser has not used flash in months if not years.
How to remove Flash from your Mac
Uninstalling Adobe Flash is not hard to do. However, if you check your downloads folder and notice that you have more than one Adobe Flash installer DMG file … you might need to call me to remove the Mac malware.
