Do I fix my iMac or get a new one?

I hear the question of “Do I fix my iMac or get a new one?” A lot. Mac users tend to love their computers. So parting with an old computer is sometimes a bit stressful. I’m going to answer a few questions about upgrading vs repairs of old iMacs.

Do I need to upgrade every time Apple releases a new iMac?

No. I fail to understand why people get upset at Apple for producing new computers and phones every year. Apple products do not stop working even after 5-7 years. I am currently writing this blog post on a 9-year-old Macbook.

I don’t do much on my iMac do I need to upgrade?

My rule of computers is that if the device is still doing what you need, then you do not have to upgrade. However, if you start to notice that you are feeling limited by what you can do with your Mac it might be time to upgrade. (Unable to install important software, Unable to visit some websites etc )

If I upgrade my Mac do I lose my information?

No. Transferring data from your old iMac to a new iMac is not difficult at all. And if you need help it is a service we can provide.

If I upgrade my iMac do I have to learn a new system?

OSX has not changed much in the last 15 years. Sure they have added features but for the most part, if you are already using a Mac computer you already know how to use the latest version.

What do I do if I want to get rid of my old Mac

You can always take it in for recycling. We can do that for you (And make sure all your data is safely destroyed before doing so) There is also nothing wrong with keeping an old mac around.

Is it a good idea to get my old iMac repaired?

I would be dishonest to not mention that I’m a little biased when it comes to getting old Mac Repaired. (After all, I am in the businesses of repairing Macs). Honestly, it depends on what kind of work you do on your mac and what needs to be repaired.
